Description

Yet another catgirl XD Ok, so the reason for all the text on this picture... This is a picture for a webcomic called the Bedlam. It's a co-op between artists of people all in a mental institute, each with their own unique mental illness. Normally I'm not overly interested in co-ops, etc, but this one seems like fun and interesting... If you want to find it: [link]

History:

Azura was born to a small family and grew up only knowing her mother, and father because shortly after she came into the world they moved away from Germany, leaving behind all other family. This would be the first in a pattern that continued later on in life as they rarely lived in one place for long. So even though Azura was always a bright and cheerful girl she rarely ever had any friends due to how she never got the chance to really know anyone. This led to her being a little lonely growing up, but she could never do anything about it of course and just learned to cope with it. Her mother and father were both loving and so she didn't ever go without knowing she was cared about and since she had no one else to be close to she developed an attachment to them both.

Eventually her parents would settle down somewhere, a nice little town with pleasant people and Azura started being able to make friends and developing attachments to others either then her parents. Things were pleasant, a smart girl she had a bright future ahead of her and she was happy with the few good friends that she made. Sure of her life and secure in it, she was 13 years old when tragedy struck. Early in the year, the girl would lose her best friend. The girl that she claimed as a best friend had been going to school one day when a drunk driver ran her down... and this would be when the first signs of a depressional disorder began to show when, even long after her friends death, she would break down crying for no apparent reason.

Next would be their family pet, mauled by a rabid coyote during the night in the springtime. Being the one to find the poor animal's body, she was understandably disturbed by it to where she spent a day in her room crying and shut in. A routine had been broken the last time that she'd seen the precious pet and she placed blame on herself this time. Normally she always let their pet in at night to let him sleep on her bed, but the night of it's death she called and they didn't come running. She felt it was her fault for not waiting longer or searching more. It was about this time that signs of something more being wrong, because even though the family dog was dead, she would claim that she could hear him barking at the door more then once... only to find when she opened the door that no one and nothing was there.

Then the hardest thing to happen occurred, not even a week from her 13th birthday. Her parents had made plans to go for a day and night cruise for quite awhile but making a stupid mistake Azura would cover it up by lying. However they would find out abuot her lie, and ground her... which of course meant that they would have to postpone their trip until that day near to her birthday. Off grounding and promising to behave they set sail, saying goodbye to their daughter for the last time. During the cruise, an unexpected storm arose and nearly sank the ship, and although it didn't, some of the passengers would drown. And two of those lost in the storm, was her parents... leaving her orphaned. Losing ones parents was bad enough, but considering how close she'd always been to them, their deaths would utterly shatter her. Shortly after learning the news of their fates, she would actually try to commit suicide. Luckily for her, someone would find her in time and saved her life.

This was when it was realized her depression was more of a disorder then occasional, and that it was a major depression. So even once she had been released from the suicide ward, she would begin to see a psychiatrist. Eventually she would be diagnosed with bipolar II disorder. Meaning that she would be put on a medical regime to try to keep it in control.

Because she was now an orphan, Azura was put into the foster system and at first things seemed to be going well. She tried really hard to take the medication she was given to take, taking it on time in the right dosages and everything. But then she started to act up, refusing to take her pills and at times coming across as nearly paranoid, claiming that those around her hated her, or were after her. Finally it'd become such a problem that Azura would be sent off to another foster home because the one couldn't deal with her problems.

Over the next 3 years, Azura would be shipped from one foster home to another as foster parents couldn't deal with some of the things that she would say or do. Of course she was still seeing a counsellor over those years, but they wouldn't really have any idea of what was wrong until she told them that she thought someone had replaced her pills with some sort of poison and they wanted her dead... Realizing that was much worse then simple behavioural problems and that she truly believed it, they of course would do what was needed to figure out the cause. At nearly 16 she'd finally be diagnosed as having Schizoaffective Disorder, because of the pattern of her behaviour. Shortly after any of her depressive episodes, would be when she'd go into a psychotic episode.

It was then that it was decided she needed to be made an inpatient at the Bedlam, because of the difficulty of getting her to take medication and the fact some of her delusions could cause problems... and the fear she may get worse, if left unattended... And so she was sent to the Bedlam.
